The ‘Carotes’ of 2019

The ‘Carotes’ are an essential part of Sant Joan festivities in Ciutadella (Menorca). ‘Carotes’ usually represent characters and archetypes of Ciutadella, usually caricatured to offer a sarcastic and mocking but friendly and funny image at the same time. Every year a Ciutadella artist paints 8 ‘Carotes’ for these parties, who will be broken as part of the games. Anyway people usually paint ‘Carotes’ for pure pleasure, to be hung at home, as decoration. I didn’t painted my ‘Carotes’ for this festivities, they are like portraits I’ve painted for those people I know, who love and live Sant Joan.
